The first film of a series of two portrays life in the Pomak village of Breznitsa (South Bulgaria) focussing on female labour, processes of re-islamization after the downfall of communism and growing western influences. Taking the example of the Muslim mother Zeyneb with her family and that of young western-oriented Fidanka these antagonistic processes in contemporary Pomak society are described.
