They all come from Guizhou province in China where they are called Miao. Miao subgroups who left China in the 19th century have kept their cultural identities since, the mouthorgan (khene) remains their distinctive main instrument. In Ha Giang northern province of Vietnam at the boarder with China, communities of white Hmong are spread on territories that were previously occupied by Lolos or mountains areas previously unoccupied and of karstic poor soil.
