Résumé: Traces the history of a burial hymn of the Mende people brought by slaves to the rice plantations of the Southeast coast of the United States more than two hundred years ago. Joe Opala and Cynthia Schmidt discover that the Gullah family have preserved this song for generations in the United States. They travel to a remote Mende village in Sierra Leone where the villagers reenact the burial ritual.
