  • lds04: The HMONG are a predominant ethnic group in southern China, northern Laos and north Vietnam. they all come from Guizhou province in China where they are called Miao, the ones who left China in the 19 th century have defined slightly different cultural identities since, but the mouthorgan remains their distinctive main instrument, the hunga singing technique is specific to vietnamese Hmong and basically all instruments, like the jews harp or the khen (keng) tend to reproduce this singing. The chungja or jew s harp with one blade made of copper is a small instrument used by lovers to talk to eachothers, the Keng or mouthorgan can be performed by the musician dancing while playing to seduce a girl. Recorded in villages around Sapa.
