  • Résumé: "The Ifugao people of the Philippines are noted for establishing traditions that endure. The extensive Cordillera rice-terrace system is one. The Hudhud, a non-ritual oral narrative chanted to break the monotony of backbreaking physical labor while weeding and harvesting, or the oppressive silence of funeral wakes, is another. There are more than 200 versions of the Hudhud, with some 40 episodes each, and one complete narration may take anywhere from three to four days. The Hudhud is a retelling of the deeds of mythical heroes and heroines who represent the best of the Ifugao character, as well as a celebration of Ifugao wealth. This multimedia packet documents a vanishing tradition that celebrates the enduring virtues of the Ifugao people and shows why the Hudhud remains an important source of information regarding Ifugao culture: customs, traditions, economic and political practices"--P.
