  • Résumé: The Dai or Tai language belong to the Zhuang-Dai branch of the sino tibetan family, numbering over one million people in Xishuan Banna and other areas of southern Yunnan, The DAI or TAI are many millions more in countries like Myanmar, Laos and Thailand, they follow Theravada Buddhism. Coming to areas of southern Yunnan where Dai people live, at the time of Dai new year ( mid of April like in Laos, Thailand or Cambodia) is to expose yourself to crowds of people throwing water at each other, announcing the first rain of the coming mansoon. Ai Feng 34 is a well known singer in her Dai community, for being able to turn any story into poetry, improvised words adapted to an old Dai singing pattern : the Wa Dai , 2 singing patterns called Wa Dai and Shui Dai ( in chinese language ) exist in this Dai area.
