  • Résumé: Dry-farming of wheat is the main economy of the semiarid Anatolian plateau. Due to the often insufficient precipitations the cereal production is irregular and has to be supplemented by the produce of sheep-breeding which is less influenced by the weather. The film shows the watering and milking of the sheep after they returned from their pastures in the morning. The herds are divided and the animals driven to the farms of their owners where they are put into stables. One by one the ewes leave the stable, are caught and held by the farmer and milked by his wife. In the evening the sheep are led back to the large village fountain, where they are watered and finally driven out to their nocturnal grazing grounds by the shepherds. The film was taken in a village of muslim emigrants (muhacir) from Russia. These westsiberian Tatars of Uzbek origin (buharist), settled in Turkey in the early 20th century, do however not differ in their economic activities from the "native" Turks (yerli).
