The chief of Nanxie village organized for us a party gathering about 40 women of all ages dressed up for the occasion and 20 men doing this large circle dance while 2 musicians in the center play Erhu and Flute, which are not traditionaly Wa instruments., the responding singing taking place between groups of women and groups of men refers to the entire repertoire of songs performed for harvest, wedding, courting. We are dealing here with an organized event, the kind of happy half folkloric staged event which has been promoted by government.
