  • Résumé: The Hadzas or Hadzabes are probably among the last bushmen ( hunters/gatherers ) in the world. In recent history they had to endure climatic and social changes, the invasion of other tribes who claim the land for agriculture, when the government is not taking it for natural parks, where they are not aloud. They are less than 1000 people living on the east side of Lake Eyasi, a salt lake in northern Tanzania. James Stephenson, an american friend who lived part time with the Hadzas in the 90s, introduced them to me and I was able to record entertainment music and songs by the fire ( VOL 1, 2 ) but also the ceremony which takes place on moonless nights. (VOL 3, 4). There are 2 predominant instruments, the Malimba a square wooden resonance box with mounted metal blades, and the Zeze a one string bowed instrument to go along with singing.
