  • lds04: The Hadzas or Hadzabes are probably among the last bushmen ( hunters/gatherers ) in the world. In recent history they had to endure climatic and social changes, the invasion of other tribes who claim the land for agriculture, when the government is not taking it for natural parks, where they are not aloud. They are less than 1000 people living on the east side of Lake Eyasi, a salt lake in northern Tanzania. James Stephenson, an american friend who lived part time with the Hadzas in the 90s, introduced them to me and I was able to record entertainment music and songs by the fire (VOL 1, 2) but also the ceremony which takes place on moonless nights. (VOL 3, 4). The Epeme ceremony takes place at night in complete darkness on a windy plateau, 2 groups are responding to each others with dancers in between the women s side and the men s side, about 20 meters separate each group sitting on the ground.
